Auckland’s Best Kept Secret
Sam:
Hey there, I’m a Kiwi who lives for the outdoors and thrives on adventure. Whether I’m kayaking, hiking, or through-hiking, I’m always up for a challenge and a new experience. Completing the Te Araroa trail was a major highlight for me, and I can’t wait to tackle my next big long trail. My love for kayaking began on the Whanganui River during high school, and since then, I’ve dabbled in white-water and sea kayaking. Leading club trips and working for Canoe and Kayak has allowed me to share my passion with others and explore the stunning waters of New Zealand.
Paul:
I’ve been kayaking for over 30 years and have a passion for the outdoors and travel. Surfing down waves on a downwind run is my favourite! I love seeing the excitement on customers’ faces when they see bioluminescence while kayaking. I also enjoy kayak fishing and bringing home fresh fish for dinner. In addition to kayaking, I’m into windsurfing, scuba diving, yachting, surf ski paddling, and Stand-Up Paddleboarding. I also enjoy cycling and hiking, having explored various trails in NZ.
Ian:
I’m a retired designer who now gets to enjoy a lot more time out on the water. I’ve been around the sea my whole life, but bought my first sea kayak and joined the Yakity Yak Kayak Club in 2005. Since then, I’ve explored the beautiful waters around NZ and led countless sea kayaking groups for the Club. Now, I’m thrilled to be guiding Bioluminescence Kayak Tours for Canoe and Kayak, sharing the magic of the sea with our customers.
Garreth:
From mountain biking to kayaking, my outdoor adventures have taken me to new heights (and waters)! Since moving to Auckland in 2019, I’ve fallen in love with exploring the Hauraki Gulf on my kayak. It all started with a simple curiosity and a desire to share this experience with my daughter. While she didn’t catch the kayaking bug, I’ve continued to paddle on my own and push my skills further. Whether it’s a serene evening paddle with the Yakity Yak club or guiding bioluminescence tours, being on the water is the highlight of the week for me.
Gary:
I’m rediscovering my love for kayaking after retiring from my teaching and translating career! I enjoy exploring the stunning coastlines and harbours of Auckland and beyond, as well as mountain biking and tramping to experience New Zealand’s diverse landscapes. Now, I’m thrilled to combine my passions, leading bioluminescence tours and sharing the magic of nature with fellow adventurers. Qu’attendez-vous? Sind Sie dabei?
